The Clarence Street Corner Project is situated in a prominent position on one of the main routes into York and is overlooked by the City Walls. The commission was won following an Architectural Competition. Planning permission was granted in November 2006 after extensive consultation with The City of York Council, English Heritage and local conservation groups. The project provides 4,800m2 of teaching and associated office space and includes the conversion of a pair of Grade 2 listed Georgian properties. The intention is that the development will mediate physically between the City and the University. Locally sourced handmade bricks, timber and sedum roofs form part of the external envelope.
