The conversion of a basement heavy-engineering laboratory into new clinical facilities for the Radiography Department to accommodate a substantial donation of fluoroscopy and ultrasound equipment and a CT scanner.
Natural light was introduced through a series of new lightwells formed in the ground floor slab. A series of glazed screens set within a maple panelled wall line allow light into the new internal corridor and as an orientation feature the new lightshafts are painted in bold primary colours.
Clinical facilities incorporate a range of technical solutions included lead-lined walls and doorsets, radiation protection measures and signage. Extensive overhead structures were introduced to support ceiling mounted x-ray equipment to very fine operating tolerances. New M&E services were introduced throughout to provide the large number of air changes required for the radiation rooms.
