Backchurch Lane
A new studio office project on Backchurch Lane close to the junction with Commercial Road, providing around 9,600 sq ft of accommodation on 4 floors. The scheme is at the eastern end of a new linear park created out of the larger scheme for 52-58 Commercial Road (see below) which is now in construction. The new building is clad in white precast concrete on the northern boundary wrapping around part of the east and west elevations. Concrete also frames the ground floor openings. The upper floors are clad in timber, designed and detailed to provide screening to opening windows and a degree of flexibility in the control of daylight and sunlight. Generous balconies look west over the new park. The scheme has been designed to utilise ground source heat pumps and, with a range of other designed efficiencies, will achieve a C02 reduction of around 50% with 20% on site renewables.
