Sport is a key element to the St Mary’s academic and social structure. This building will provide 2,000m2 of accommodation and will unite a disparate collection of existing buildings.
This new single storey building will consist of a sports hall with a linear block wrapping around it. This is topped by a sinuous wavy aluminium roof which opens up to address the main spine route through the campus. The building will sit within a new open parkland landscape which will provide views through the site as well as screening.
The building will be an exemplary low energy and sustainable development with an Excellent BREEAM rating. There will be no air conditioning plant and renewable energies such as a ground source heat pump are being utilised to provide over 15% of the energy requirement in use.
