The Heath Rise Estate is a classic ‘30's built development of large apartments in 4 blocks in a spacious landscape of gardens including a largely unused secluded ‘garden’ surrounded by mature trees. RSS were commissioned to look at the possibility of developing this site. The design locates a new 5 story ‘mansion block’ at the east end of the site with all apartments having generous balconies/terraces/gardens and a westerly aspect. A three storey ‘gate house’ marks the site entrance. The location of the buildings on the perimeter of the site reinforces the sense of a generous open space defined by residential buildings, both existing and new. The intention has been to develop an exemplary and sustainable scheme (4 star under the code for sustainable homes) which retains a significant part of the open space of the site and which will enhance the quality of the local area.
