College Building is the oldest building on the City University site, built in 1896. It is Grade II Listed and surviving original features include a Victorian swimming pool used as a training venue for the 1908 Olympics.
Rivington Street Studio have worked extensively with the University’s School of Arts to evolve a brief for new accommodation which will be housed over the basement, ground and first floor of the refurbished building. The project will provide a new Performance Space for the Music Department, Newsrooms, Television and Radio Studios for the Journalism Department and a Resource Centre for the whole School housed within the converted swimming pool. A new external courtyard space will be created at the heart of the building as an amenity space for staff and students.
The project has been procured to a fast-track programme including obtaining full planning approval for alterations to the Grade II Listed structures.
