Anerley Housing

Rivington Street Studio developed a proposal for 10 new homes for the London Borough of Bromley in response to the acute and urgent need for temporary accommodation; housing people waiting for permanent Council solutions within the borough.

The brief sought new accommodation of the highest design quality, sustainable construction and energy efficiency.

The project sits just off Anerley High Street, adjacent to the Town Hall and behind a nursery. It has good aspect with frontage to three sides, two of which are on flanking residential streets.

A row of homes comprise stacked flats and duplex maisonettes with private entrances at ground level. The form is composed of modular blocks built into a replicable cluster all enjoying double or triple aspect. These are positioned to define active street frontages with new birch trees, soft landscaping and vehicle parking. A secure shared landscaped amenity area incorporating children’s play, cycle and refuse storage is provided at the rear.

The palette of materials comprises a pale stock brick at ground level combined with slate grey weather boarded cladding to the upper floors.

Due to both the urgency and the quality goals of the project, an offsite modular solution delivered in partnership with M-AR was provided.
