University of Hertfordshire New Health Building

The new building for the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences will provide a centre of excellence for health and social work teaching and learning at the University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane campus.

The project provides practical spaces for clinical skills learning, general teaching spaces, social learning ‘connect’ areas and open accessible staff work bases, all  arranged within two linear blocks. These are offset to articulate the mass as well as creating a generous arrival plaza and a pedestrian route forming a new east west link through the campus enabling better pedestrian connectivity and accessibility.

The design follows extensive stakeholder consultation and results in an adaptable inclusive design solution providing a striking identity for the School.

The project targets BREEAM Excellent and WELL Building Standard ‘Gold’. The design utilises a fabric first approach with on-site renewable energy and efficient M&E services. The extensive landscape design and new tree planting create a new green heart to the campus.

“At Herts, we’re always striving to make our campuses vibrant and inspiring places to be. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our next major project: the construction of a cutting-edge Health Building on our College Lane campus.
The new Health Building will be a hub of innovation and excellence, designed to support our mission of delivering world-class education and research in health and social work.”
