Newington Green

RSS won an RIBA competition in 1998 for the redevelopment of an important brownfield site on the edge of a conservation area at a prominent and busy road junction overlooking Newington Green. The project was carefully negotiated through planning. The mixed use development includes 44 flats (for sale, shared ownership and for rent), a restaurant/bar and a new Medical Centre. The flats andĀ restaurant/barĀ are arranged within a seven storey tower which forms a strong landmark within Newington Green.

A three storey terrace relates to the existing Victorian terraces on Albion Rd and the medical centre forms a two storey transition to the lower terraces on Green Lanes. The project has been used as an exemplar by Peabody and the GLA.

"...the residents describe it as really spacious with a good spirit"
