Harrow School Sports Building

The new Sports Building is a key part of the Harrow 450 development programme. Together with the proposed new Science Building, it forms a coherent whole in which the design of the buildings is integrated with an extensive landscape strategy. The massing and siting respect the buildings historic setting whilst creating a positive relationship to the School’s main sports pitches.

The project provides new sports halls, a 25m 6 lane swimming pool and learner pool, a climbing wall, a fitness and performance suite, multi-purpose classrooms and extensive changing facilities which serve both inside and outside sports.

The building is served from an energy centre in the Science building which contributes to the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ target.

By exploiting the significant level drop from the historic setting at the ridge of the Hill, the impact of the large volume sports halls is minimised. The main building elements are expressed externally with articulated roofs, textured and modulated red brick facades and carefully positioned openings defining key views into and out of the building.
